What is a quotation?

A quotation is the document a business sends a prospective customer to propose a price for goods or services, before any sale is agreed. It typically includes a validity period, since prices and availability may change — once accepted, it becomes the basis for the order or invoice that follows.

How to create a quotation

  1. Enter your business details, including your GSTIN if applicable.
  2. Enter your customer's details.
  3. Add the quotation number, date, valid-until date and subject.
  4. Choose whether the quotation is taxable (GST) or non-taxable.
  5. Add one or more line items with quantity and rate.
  6. Preview the quotation, then download it as a PDF.

Taxable vs. non-taxable quotations

A taxable quotation shows GST the same way a GST invoice does — CGST and SGST when your business and the place of supply are in the same state, or IGST when they differ. A non-taxable quotation shows no GST at all — useful for businesses that aren't GST-registered, or for a quote where tax hasn't been determined yet.

Important notes

A quotation generated with this tool is a proposed price, not a tax invoice, a demand for payment, or a government-verified document. GSTIN entries are checked for correct format only — this tool does not verify GSTIN registration status with any government system. For complex or unusual pricing scenarios, consult a qualified professional.

Frequently asked questions

What is a quotation?

A quotation is a proposed price for goods or services that you offer a prospective customer before the sale happens. It is not a tax invoice and does not create a payment obligation — it becomes one only once the customer accepts it.

Is this quotation generator free?

Yes. Creating, previewing and downloading a quotation with this tool is free and does not require an account.

Do I need a GSTIN to create a quotation?

No. GST details are entirely optional — you can create a taxable quotation with GST shown, or a plain non-taxable quotation with no tax at all.

What is the difference between a quotation and an invoice?

A quotation is an offer — a proposed price that has not yet been agreed to. An invoice is a demand for payment for goods or services already delivered or agreed upon. Use the Free GST Invoice Generator once a quotation has been accepted and it's time to bill.

Can I download the quotation as a PDF?

Yes. Once you've entered your quotation details, you can preview it and download a professional A4 PDF.

Does the tool save my quotation data?

No. Your quotation details are used only in your browser and on the server for the moment it takes to generate the PDF — they are not saved to a database or a Business Software account unless you choose a future save workflow.
